Eating Healthy is Looney

But, there are tons of people who can help.

For example, I consistently come up with tons of creative ideas for feeding my kids healthy meals and snacks (meaning I steal my ideas from people who are really smart).

My biggest hurdle remains school lunch, since I'm not there to cram it down his throat monitor his intake, but I'm trying to pack only things I would want him to eat (and one special treat, like a cookie, because human beings can not survive without cookies) so that if he eats anything it will be something healthy.

Here are some of my favorite eat healthy, mom friendly, websites that offer tips and recipes to make eating healthy a little less looney:

Better Homes and Gardens. My favorite magazine has a helpful website too.

Family Fun. This site, sponsored by Disney, offers tons of things a family would love, including healthy recipes that kids will enjoy.

Mom Logic
. One stop site for everything Mom, which naturally would include tons of resources for the uncreative bunch of us that can't seem to think outside of the (lunch) box!

Momologie. A brand new site that offers tons of exciting options for everyday meal options as well as special ideas for entertaining. I'm excited to see where this site goes.

And, there are also some pretty awesome mom bloggers out there who do an amazing job of getting their kids to eat healthy, too. Here are some I want to be like when I grow up!

The Kitchen Witch. The only food blog I read regularly. I love her because she's awesome. Her recipes are edible and her stories are hilarious. Plus, she uses naughty words gratuitously and I sincerely enjoy a gratuitous F-bomb.

Foodie Tots
. A recent discovery that makes eating healthy look very delicious. Her photos make me believe that Chilled Plum Soup is actually yummy. She's also a huge local food eater who can give tips and inspiration to anyone interested in learning to eat local.

The Toddler Cafe. She's fresh, she's fun, and she appears to have more creativity in her teaspoon than I have in my entire kitchen

Meal Makeover Moms' Kitchen
. A very action packed site (recipes, podcasts, and magic meatloaf) that was just nominated for an award which, in my book, is awesome as I've never actually been nominated for anything unless you count all the times I nominate myself for stuff.

And, don't forget to check out Safeway's Eating Right Kids products with some Looney kid friendly items that your family might enjoy (the dudes like the wheat grain waffles, but that's really about it. We haven't really tried other stuff though 'cause Safeway is a bit of a hike from Casa de Dummies).

Disclaimer: This has been a sponsored series courtesy of Warner Bros. and Safeway. They provided monetary support and the gift basket that was given away and won by Deb Thaxton of Web Savvy Mom.

You are sweet to mention me! And yes, I do love to drop the occasional F-Bomb, that's for sure!

I'm going to check out the other sources you mentioned--sounds like you're doing your research, girl.

ps: tried to vote for you yesterday and it wouldn't go through...will try again today. You're a funny, savvy lady.

What a great list of resources! Thanks for stopping by today...I'll have to try the Starbucks version (maybe I'll get it minus the whip to stay with your healthy theme today...then again, what's the point of a yummy pumpkin latte without whip?! LOL).

I read something recently (NY TImes, naturally!) about "bento" lunches -- with parents going all creative and packing really elaborate lunches in special compartmentalized lunch boxes in special shapes. (I could well be not remembering all this correctly, I must add.) Bento is Japanese, I think it was, for having things in separate compartments. It was pretty interesting. I have to say my niece uses me as what NOT to do as a parent, because I used to cater to my kids' finikiness. If I could do it over, I would. All you can do is provide and not make a big deal out of things, I think, (and don't make them something else if they don't like what you're serving! I speak from painful experience.)

I do like to model health behaviors to my girls, however, so I do try to have salads and veggies, as well as meat/chicken, dessert/whatever. I do exercise. Family Fit is a great choice for parents (and even grandparents) who want to be more active with their families and incorporate a healthier lifestyle. He's not spouting bean sprouts, he's saying eating should be fun, physical activity should be fun. And he gives activities and interests to let families spend time together. (Kind of like multi-tasking for your family and yourself.)

And I'm going to check out the "Kitchen Witch" site. It sounds like a riot! Thanks.

Giving away two copies of the movie Extract starring Jason Bateman and Ben Affleck. Contest ends 4/2/10.
