Eating Healthy is Looney

And, why is this especially the case at school and snack time?

Its tough to find healthy things #1 will eat in front of his friends (not sure why, but he only wants to buy or have the exact same thing everyone else has, thank you peer pressure).

I try to slip in fresh fruit or veggies along with his half-a-ham-and-cheese-with-a-little-mustard-please-don't-switch-it-up-Mom-or-I-will-FREAK! sandwiches.

And, after school, health food is an elusive little biotch as well.

He usually wants the other half of his lunch sandwich and that's it.

I've offered him gorgeously decorated veggie trays (carrot sticks with fat free ranch), gourmet yogurt (Go-gurts), eye catching fruit displays (cut apples arranged in a circle), and all types of other inventive, healthy, look-what-I-made-kids! options.

But, he likes the sandwhich, and the sandwich is so freakin' easy I pretty much just go with that (you know, 'cause I'm a kinda lazy and stuff).

I do want to try, though (no really, I do).

Lucky for me (and you if you keep reading!) Warner Bros. Consumer Products and Safeway, Inc. has a ton of fun and easy solutions for lazy a** moms like me.

They have "teamed up to create a better-for-you line of food products for children, uniting flavor and nutrition with the iconic Looney Tunes characters. The Eating Right Kids food line featuring Bugs Bunny, Marvin the Martian, Daffy Duck and others offers more than 60 items across 18 categories including breakfast foods, produce, portable meals, dairy, snacks, beverages and frozen entrees - making it easy for moms to spot healthier food and beverage items for their kids that taste great".

And, they are sponsoring a sweetly healthy little giveaway for you to enter right here on your favorite blog, PBD.!

So.

Awesome.

A basket full of deliciously Looney Tuney fun!

See, looks kinda cool, right?!

Want to make it yours?

All you have to do is:

1.) Leave a comment (or a link to a recipe would work too) telling me your favorite, healthy lunch or snack item that your kids don't gag over or shun like the plague (actually, my kids don't seem to be entirely opposed to the plague as they make it a point to touch every nasty surface they can find and then rub their hands all over the inside of their mouths. Heathens!)

and

2) Follow PBD.

That's all folks!

And the gift basket could be yours.

Fine print: Contest ends at midnight on 10/02/09 and the winner will be announced on Saturday Swagurday (10/3/09). The selected winner will have 24 hours to email me their name, address, and TELEPPHONE NUMBER (their requirement, not mine). If contact is not made, an alternate winner will be selected. The baskets ship directly from the contest sponsor and will include all of the following (as long as available):

Looney Tunes Golden Collection Volume 1
Tweety T-shirt from Junk Food
Looney Tunes plush item
Looney Tunes stationary or home good
Eating Right Kids “green” shopping bag from Safeway
Eating Right Kids post card
Eating Right Kids Products (non perishable) in a branded lunch box
Canned Ravioli with Daffy or Microbowl with Tweety
Tri-color Wheat Rotini with Sylvester and Tweety
Apple juice with Taz
Chewy Bar with Wile E. Coyote and Road Runner

They didn't mention that fancy ribbon, but I'll bet you get it too:)

Good luck!

When he's with the sitter, Lil' Daddy really likes whole-grain wagon wheel pasta and some diced steamed veggies. Will he eat this with me? Hellz No. When I'm home, snack time consists of Mama Milk, thank you. Anything else? Absolutely-effing-Not.
But hey... the extra calories help me justify trips to Culver's drive-thru for custard. I mean, going on a drive to get him to sleep (as Big Daddy knows it...)

I'm fortunate that my kids tend to enjoy healthy options. They love love love fruit. Cut up melon, grapes, apples, any kind of berry. My daughter loves hummus, of all things.

@Jennifer Your comment totally reminds me of the time my husband and I attempted to drive our daughter to sleep so we could get Culver's... we failed miserably. She wouldn't give in to the carseat snooze. For the first time ever. It was torture!

My kids absolutely LOVE cut up apples and peanut butter. They eat it several times a week for a snack and beg for it almost always.

Oooh! I know this is an old one, but we love celery spread with peanut butter. Skip the raisins. My kids will not touch celery in recipes, salads, or plain, but spread on the PB and they're game!

My girls are very picky eaters as well..Brocolli and Cauliflower with a little pinch of butter do the trick for them. Plus fruit cups, Jellos with fruit in them, yogurt as well.

I also serve them frozen yogurt and put out fruit toppings and different nuts and let them go crazy adding as many different fruit variety in there frozen yogurts makes the yogurt pretty and they seem to like it alot :-).. good luck

Ok here's where I get annoying. There are trans fats in some of their products. I read the spaghettios label? And partially hydrogenated something is in there. So I'm just letting you know, Most of their stuff is fine, but read the labels, don't just go with the cute logo..

Sorry but it really irked me that they had trans fats in there.

Way to go detective Mira! I always wonder what even qualifies as "healthy". I don't see how most convenience foods could possibly make the grade. But, I'm no expert. And, was that to count as your entry or what?!

Mira is triplet crown said...

This freebie ho will take anything. My husband can eat the transfats, although I think the ravioli in your package is cool. But I don't usually enter contests so if there's something else I'm supposed to do to enter? Too lazy....

OMG! I SO LOVE YOUR BLOG! This is my first time here! Love it love it love it! And the plague comment as well. So true so true!

My kids love eating those prepacked apples with caramal dip. They can't get enough of them. I love that the caramel portions are smaller so they don't get so much!

I'm lucky that my little nephew will eat just about anything I put in front of his face.

He's totally obsessed with pineapples and cucumbers. I just cut up some pieces of that for him and he's a happy camper.

Thanks for stopping by my blog!

OH, and I'm a follower now =]

my son hates fruits and vegetables. Hates them. So I don't push them because I rather night fight the monster. I trick him with these things: http://www.snacksalad.com/products.html

sometimes I serve them with hummus and feta; then they're almost a meal. My kid wont eat a carrot but he eats feta like popcorn. bleh.

My kids are not big fruit or veggie eaters but they will snack on string cheese and frozen grapes.
