Honestly, I like you

It's not that I don't like spending time with you.

It's just the whole of you that makes it, uh, challenging.

It's not that I couldn't wait for school to start.

It's just that, now that it has, and two-thirds of you are gone for at least a portion of the day I'm, uh, sorta happy.

'Cause when it's just #3 and me, we can do things that all of us, couldn't, or wouldn't, do together.

Like go to the park, not to play, just to look (and let Dumb Mom exercise).

And, we wouldn't walk around downtown, right past the huge, better stocked, main branch of the library without anyone begging to go in (to check something out that we would invariably lose, only to find it later, and return it and wind up owing more in fines than we would have if we'd just lost the effing thing for good and paid for it out right!).

No way could we have gone in this cute little deli with it's narrow doorway (you all would have pushed and shoved to get through), and it's tables for two (you all would have fought over the extra chair before arguing over who had to sit at the adjacent table alone), and it's deliciously soaked in butter bagels (that would have cost me $20 had you been there b/c you each would have required your own drink and your own bagel, even though you'd be hard pressed to finish either one).

But, #3 and I happily shared (to reduce my calorie intake and prevent me from entirely negating the fact that this was originally designed as an exercise mission).

While sitting quietly beside the creek.

And, this toy store, with it's easily accessible samples and it's whimsical, but fragile, toys would have been wishing it were guarded by a vicious child eating bear as opposed to the happily dancing one that pirouettes near it's door.

Seriously. It's not that you're not an energetic, fun to be around, obnoxiously enjoyable bunch, 'cause you totally are.

It's just that when you're temporarily not here because you are happily engaged in other activities that are stimulating and integral to your overall physical, mental, social, and emotional development (or if you're at Mimi's house), I almost remember what it's like to be me.

So, #3, when do you start school?

I feel the same way. Love my kids, but rejoice at the start of school. :) Lovely pictures!

This made me so jealous of your fabulously enjoyable day. Whereever you live, it seems to have such character.

I can and can't relate. I am glad for the occasional extra time I have with the baby of the family but I run a home daycare so really getting rid of the older ones means that finally there is only one boss in the house... me not the other kids that think since they are school age that they should help bossing the little kids around. UGGG. I wish I could have gone on your walk it looked like fun.

That picture of your little dude with the bagel is sooooo sweet.

It's precious alone time for you and #3, and it's so hard to carve out individual attention for your kids. Enjoy!

I love the pic of your boys on the steps - so cute and a true picture of brotherhood!

Your walk looked magical! Enjoy your time with #3

Sounds very nice to only have one kid for even a short period of hours. I wish I was back there walking the city streets with you. Sigh. Could almost afford to live there...

I feel like I'm the only one who hates when the kids are gone!

LOL That was so cute and funny and touching all at the same time. Glad to see you found some time for you. Everyone needs time for themselves once in a while, even if it is an entire school year. lol

Perfect.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder? Truer words were never spoken.

Love it. Nice to always see the positives. I have every other Friday off and it is always a hard choice to keep one of the kids with me or send them both to school. I miss them so much, but I miss being alone sometimes too.

now that both of my kids are happily engaged at school... I am happily engaged at work! I don't know what I'd do with myself if I was at home all day alone???

Yes, I love too when my oldest goes to school. Me and the girl(my youngest) get to spend some quality time together. We tend to eat more cookies too.

Bill Cosby says you're not a real parent unless you have more than one. With one, you always know who did it.
