It's a soundtrack really

I can't commit to just one song.

My life has a pretty eclectic soundtrack that it bops along to.

I'm convinced that since turning 30, my taste in music has declined significantly. I just fall in love with these songs featuring ridiculous lyrics that I'm embarrassed to sing in front of my peers, and prohibited from singing in front my kids.

I call it my alone music, which basically means I listen to it for approximately 18 minutes per week.

Sadly, though, the song that comes to mind most frequently is Hip Hop Harry's I Love to Learn.

Nice beat, huh?

But, it pisses me off every time I'm minding my own business and this song creeps into my mind.

It just makes me think what has happened to my life?

When did I turn into a freakin' 4 year old (March 17, 2009, I believe)?

I remember the days when this was my mind song...

Because when I grew up I wanted to be Cyndi Lauper. Her teased hair and tube tops were to die for.

And then, I decided that I didn't want to be Dalvin DeGrate, but I definitely wanted to marry him. So, this song ruled. My. Life.

High School was probably scary for my parents because I got into this man pretty heavily...

It was a phase, you know.

These days I'm teetering precariously between Boom Boom Pow! and If you Seek Amy, neither of which are particularly appropriate for a 30-something mommy of 3, but you know, I'm inappropriate like that.

Actually, now that I think about it, Britney is an almost 30 something mom of two, so maybe she's perfect for a chick like me (So, SAHM to tween girls, get off her, she's a grown up!).

Awesome, because I totally rock her Circus about 18 minutes a week.

Wish I looked like that in a top hat;)

Cyndi Lauper rules! At least she did at one point in life. Remember her occasional cohort mate Julie Brown?

Really great post! I think I love the song you have playing now! It could definitely be a theme song. I want to put it on my blog soon one day! Inspired by you of course : ). PS Have I told you how adorable your boys are? OH MY GOSH so cute!

I'm feelin' ya! I LOVE, LOVE that music that is so inappropriate for my little ones! And I'm OLDER than you! Imagine THAT! LOL! I, too, LOVED 2 Pac... still known to play a song or two of his on my iPod now and again!

I love your soundtrack! I love how you guided us though your life! And Cyndi Lauper is right up there with Julie Brown and Madonna in my eyes for the best in the 80s!

Like pretty much every other day of my life I'm gonna totally embarrass myself and divulge my other 80's music faves: Debbie Gibson, Tiffany, The Jetts, Eddie Murphy (yep, he made music), Janet&Michael Jackson (played their albums on my Fisher Price record player), Young MC, Tone Loc, and the Fatt Boys. Booyah!

Cyndi Lauper was on the finale of American Idol last week. She is still totally awesome.

I loved this post. I too find my self singing "I love to learn" and "what's gonna work , Team work". But admittedly my favs. are songs that I too must sing in my alone time, or hum along in my head. It must be those thirties, still holding on to the youngness you have left.

I wouldn't mind looking like that in a top hat, either.

I'm still dying over the running feet. That would keep me entertained for hours. :)

Great post. The first video cracked me up, when my son was young I went around singing Elmo's World because I could not shake that tune out of my brain from watching it 12 hours a day.

Ahhh Cindi's "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" was my class song. It worked because we were an all girl school :o)

Drat! Forgot Mimi reads this. Please do not reveal any additional embarrassing elements about my past. However, I am proud of my NKOTB infatuation and was fully ready to revive it for their comeback tour until I heard the new album, blech:)

I'm waiting for the day where I tell every one the best music was between X and Y years, which is what most older people do. When they say that, I used to roll my eyes. But I'm afraid I'll say that one day soon . . .

Giving away two copies of the movie Extract starring Jason Bateman and Ben Affleck. Contest ends 4/2/10.
